Our annual Putt for Polio Fundraiser

The event will take place Sunday, March 1 from 2-4 at the West Bloomfield High School, 4925 Orchard Lake Road, West Bloomfield (note change of location from last year)

Let’s put in perspective what Rotary and their partners have done, so far to eradicate polio. By the way, some of Rotary’s partners are: The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (they will donate double any donation made and this has just been extended through 2028), Centers for Disease Control, and The World Health Organization.

In 1988 there were approximately 350,000 new cases of wild polio virus in more than 125 endemic countries. Today, that has decreased 99%.

As of September 17, 2025, 28 wild Polio cases have been reported globally, with 24 in Pakistan and 4 in Afghanistan.

In 2024 100 new polio cases were in Indonesia. Also, in 2024 there was one case in Gaza where there hadn’t been a new case in 25 years.

Though that is a spectacular improvement and accomplishment from 1988, you can see that the work is not done! As long as new cases keep occurring, Polio can still spread.

This shows what Rotary International has done to eradicate Polio and what still needs to be done.
Hope to see you there!
